All Solar Charge Controllers
Solar charge controllers or solar charge regulators as they are also known. Used to regulate and control the power generated by a solar panel into a battery. Solar charge controllers have protective circuits to protect all the components from damage or irregular activity. Some of the main functions are, protecting the battery from overcharging. Discharging at night when the panel can remove power from a battery. Reverse polarity or short circuits. Any devices also connected to the battery at the same time as over voltage or fluctuations can damage some sensitive equipment. The second function of the solar charge regulator is to manage the battery charging as efficiently as possible. PWM (pulse width modulaton) chargers are very effective for most applications however MPPT (maximum power point tracking) has a significant advantage on larger systems.
