Lithium Batteries

Lithium batteries are ideal for storing the energy generated by solar panels. They can be ideal for motorhomes, homes, outbuildings, boats, RVs, caravans and anywhere that needs efficient batteries to store energy.

The operating lifetime of lithium batteries depends on the operating conditions and how they are used. In an ideal situation, you could expect over 2,000 cycles from each battery before noticing a reduction in storage capacity. You should still get 70-80% storage capacity long after those 2,000 cycles though!

Yes, lithium batteries are safer than lead acid. That’s not to say lead acid are unsafe, because they aren’t. But Lithium doesn’t use sulfuric acid and can come with built-in protection circuits to ensure a longer, safer operating life.

Lithium batteries cope well with the British climate. Most lithium batteries work best at between 15-35C but this can vary depending on the battery manufacturer. As long as the batteries are placed inside a building or vehicle, temperature should not be an issue. If lithium batteries are used outside these temperatures, you may see a drop in efficiency but they will still work

The size of the lithium battery you’ll need depends on how much energy you want to access. Each battery will have an ‘ah’ measure which is how much amperage it can provide in an hour. For example, a 100ah lithium battery can deliver 100W over the course of an hour. We can help with any questions you might have on battery capacity.

As there is no liquid or moving parts in lithium batteries, you can orient them however you like. As long as the fixing is secure, you can place lithium batteries anywhere you like within reason. Lithium batteries are designed for use in vehicles and within buildings. They are not suitable for being placed outdoors as they are not weatherproof.

If you’re using lithium batteries in a camper or caravan, you can charge the battery and then disconnect it from the system. As long as the temperature doesn’t go to extremes, the battery should be fine for longer periods of time.

You can connect lithium batteries in either series or parallel. Connect them in series and you’ll increase the output voltage of the system. Connect them in parallel and you increase the storage capacity of the battery bank. Either works fine with lithium batteries.

Yes, you can mix AGM and lithium batteries in parallel but we don’t recommend it. The resting voltage for AGM is lower than lithium. This means the lithium batteries will gradually drain into the AGM batteries, reducing the efficiency of your battery bank.
